How To Get There

Departure from Hamburg

If you’re coming from Hamburg, the drive isn’t too long.—about 3 hours and 45 minutes in total.

The quickest route is a 2.5 hrs drive to Fynshav to catch the ferry in southern Jutland, which takes you to the Island in about 1 hour and 15 minutes. Just a heads-up, the ferry from Fynshav only runs a few times a day, so if you’re bringing your car, make sure to book a spot.

Taking the train ? The journey will be a bit longer at around 8 hours and 15 minutes.

Departure from Copenhagen

If you’re driving from Copenhagen Airport, it’s about a 3.5-hour trip. You’ll take a ferry from Svendborg to Ærøskøbing—just remember to book a car space on the ferry in advance if you plan to bring your car to the island.

Not planning to use a car? No worries! You can park in Svendborg and hop on the ferry which takes you to the Island.

If you prefer taking the train ? It’ll take around 4 hours and 20 minutes. You can check Omio or Deutsche Bahn for tickets,

On The Island

Once on the island, buses are free, and many locations are within walking distance—so getting around should be easy! A car might be needed if you decide to stay somewhere more remote.
